Volunteering

Anyone can volunteer. It can be very rewarding and is a great way to:

  • meet new people
  • gain new or use existing skills
  • get experience
  • make a difference to your community

There are lots of easy ways to give your time to help others, helping out in your local area or making a regular commitment to volunteer with a charity or community group.

Roles and Responsibilities as a Volunteer

As an ESRA volunteer, you must meet the criteria listed below;

  • Have been in recovery for at least nine months and not currently misusing drugs, alcohol or prescription drugs (if you have a lapse or relapse please speak to a manager who will ensure you receive the right support)
  • Be 18 years of age or over
  • Support the core values and mission statement of ESRA

ESRA volunteers will attend:

  • Attend a 3-hour induction training
  • Adhere to policies and procedures at all times
  • Complete any task that you have agreed undertake
  • Act in the best interests of ESRA
  • Be encouraged to actively participate in group/1-1supervision and undertake training as necessary
  • Give adequate notice before leaving where possible
  • Act in a way which will not bring ESRA into disrepute
  • Respect other people’s pathway to recovery and promote choice
  • Bring any ideas, queries or questions to the group so that decisions can be made
  • Ensure that you ask for help where needed.
  • Read, respect and uphold all of our policies, procedures and group boundaries
  • Undertake WRAP training if appropriate

In return ESRA will offer:

  • Ongoing support including 1-1 meetings with the Recovery Hub Manager [RHM] every 6-8 weeks.
  • Choice of what projects to become involved in, subject to ESRA’s needs and capacity as well as your suitability for the role
  • Out of pocket expenses
  • Ongoing training opportunities to support personal development
